Sri Lanka Successfully Hosts Prestigious FAPRA 2024, Cementing Its Place as a Regional Retail Hub

Colombo, Sri Lanka – September 2024:
Sri Lanka made history by successfully hosting the 21st Asia Pacific Retailers Convention and Exhibition (APRCE 2024), one of the most influential retail events in the region, organized by the Federation of Asia-Pacific Retailers Associations (FAPRA). Held from September 4–6 in Colombo, the event brought together over 350 retail leaders, innovators, and policy-makers from 18 Asia-Pacific nations.

Themed “Redefining Retail in APAC: From Transactions to Transformation,” the convention provided a forward-looking platform for dialogue on retail trends, digital innovation, and consumer behavior. The event opened with a high-profile ceremony at the Shangri-La Hotel Colombo and continued at the BMICH, featuring knowledge forums, CEO roundtables, and curated B2B networking opportunities.

A Defining Moment for Sri Lankan Retail

Hosted by the Sri Lanka Retailers’ Association (SLRA), APRCE 2024 not only spotlighted the country’s evolving retail sector but also positioned Sri Lanka as a strategic player in the Asia-Pacific market. SLRA’s Immediate Past President, Murali Prakash, was officially appointed as the Chairman of FAPRA, marking a proud moment of leadership for the nation.

“This is a transformative time for retail across Asia-Pacific. Hosting APRCE 2024 has allowed Sri Lanka to showcase its resilience, adaptability, and digital readiness,” said Prakash in his keynote.

Celebrating Innovation and Excellence

A major highlight was the FAPRA Awards Ceremony, where Singer Sri Lanka received the coveted “Most Innovative Retail Concept” award for its Renewal Model — a bold shift emphasizing cost optimization, digital integration, and customer-centric transformation amidst economic headwinds.

Looking Ahead

APRCE 2024 concluded with a symbolic handover of the FAPRA flag to the Japan Retailers Association, with Tokyo announced as the next host city for APRCE 2026. The event ended on a high note, reaffirming Sri Lanka’s potential as a knowledge-sharing and investment-friendly destination for global retail leaders.
